SLOVAKIA | Socializing | General information

Social Life

There are two general ways of socializing in Slovakia. One is provided by work duties and these are social functions attended with colleagues (sports, cultural events and business functions). Then there is socializing with the family, relatives and friends who do not have anything to do with our work. That's the private life. In general people in Slovakia like to go to coffeehouses, taverns, pubs, restaurants, clubs, patisseries or private social functions (dinner parties, birthday parties, garden parties, etc.). In Slovakia friends or colleagues from work like to meet in wine bars and pubs. They also like gardening. On Saturdays or Sundays in the summer you might be invited to a barbeque in a garden.

Entertainment

Culture is also an important part of our social life. Slovaks like to go to the theatre or concerts. There are cultural events like plays or concerts of classical or popular music in all the cities and towns. People also go to pop concerts, dance parties and discos, as well as to the movies and art exhibitions.

Heritage & Nature

Slovaks also like outdoor activities, and they often spend their free time strolling in parks or woods, hiking or cycling.

Slovakia's nature is beautiful. You can visit the High or Low Tatra mountains or take a scenic cruise on the Danube or Vah rivers. It is very interesting to go to Strecno or to Pieniny for rafting; there are thermal swimming pools (Sturovo, Liptovsky Mikulas, Dunajska Streda) and caves. There are many fortresses and castles in Slovakia as well as world-famous curative springs and spas.

Sport

Sport also plays an important role in the social life of the Slovak people. The number one sport is ice hockey. People like to watch ice hockey or football matches either at stadiums or in pubs or clubs, but very often at home on TV. Many Slovaks like to meet at sports activities; they play basketball, football or tennis. Sometimes colleagues also meet at sports events.
