DOs
- familiarise yourself with emergency procedures (at home, at work, etc.)
- get information regarding the closest doctor, dentist or hospital
- ask about the location of your country's embassy and consulate
- carry your own medicines if you are following any specific treatment
- contact your health insurance company beforehand (as well as companies for additional insurance covers)
- photocopy and keep all the important documents in a safe place in case of loss or theft (passport, identity card, credit card, insurance, contract, contact numbers of the embassy/consulate and other useful contact numbers, etc.)
- keep all bills and receipts to send them to your own insurance company
- know how to telephone (by using the international, national and regional codes)
DON’Ts
- panic when in trouble
- leave your goods unsupervised
- forget to give exact locations and addresses in case of an emergency
- forget to carry your European health insurance card, temporary certificate or suitable form (E111 or E128)
