Social Life

The best way to meet young people is to join a club or a sports school. In France, many people do sports during their free time. Fitness centres are not as popular in France as in other countries; places like dance schools or judo clubs are more popular.

If you are more interested in cultural life than in sports, you have a lot of opportunities in France. Nearly every city has a cultural centre that hosts plenty of cultural events during school time. The varied surroundings and countryside also offer many activities for your free time. During the weekends, the French people go often to the cinema, visit fairs, castles and museums, or just relax during a walk in the park. The residents often leave the city on weekends; this is one reason for the traffic-jams on the way to the countryside. To find cultural information or to find out what kind of cultural events take place in your host city, you can get all necessary details from the Tourism Office. You can also find useful information in cultural guides and magazines such as Le Parissi for the city of Paris.

Entertainment

The French work a lot but they also know how to enjoy their free time. Reading, sports activities every week and going out with friends are amongst their favourite pastimes. All cities in France offer a wide variety of sports and cultural activities as well as theatres and cinemas, bars and discotheques. To find out what activities take place, you can go through the various French media and also inform yourself at the Tourism Offices. During summer, many music festivals take place. As France is surrounded by sea on two sides, French people are very fond of going to the coast and beaches along the sea. Here, you can find a large variety of leisure activities. In addition, the Alps, the Pyrenees and the Massiv Central are favourite vacation spots for trips and winter sports.
