- research suitable medical insurance for yourself before going to your placement
- remember the European Health Insurance Card only provides basic medical insurance
- familiarise yourself with emergency procedures at work and at your residence
- photocopy the relevant section of your passport and put it in a safe place
- make a note of your country's embassy's phone number.
- find out the location of the nearest hospital and police station
