In Sweden, you will often be asked for your personal number, national registration number, when dealing with the bank, obtaining an identity card, etc. To become registered in Sweden, when you come here with a residence permit valid for one year or more, you must, as soon as possible, go to the local Tax office, "Lokala Skattemyndigheten", and register. Bring your passport and your residence permit.
If a trainee intends to stay in Sweden for more than one year, it is also possible to become registered with the social insurance office, "Försäkringskassan", and thus become included in the Swedish National Insurance Act (AFL). As a general rule all trainees have to pay income tax in Sweden. The employer has to deduct tax from his employee's income according to Swedish law. The tax for trainees is about 25%.
Swedish people have traditionally a very high membership of trade unions. Roughly 80 percent of all employees belong to trade unions.
During your working days you will probably eat your lunch at your workplace. The lunch break is between half an hour and one hour. If you eat at a restaurant lunch or dinner is the service always included in the menu price.
