When you visit Lithuania, please have one of these documents confirming your entitlement to reimbursement of health care services:
- European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)
- Provisional Replacement Certificate (PRC)
- Certificate E106
- Certificate E109
If you have EHIC, you are entitled to necessary medical care services which are free of charge in health care institutions that belong to the Lithuanian National Health System. You do not need to register at Territorial Patient Funds (TPF), if you have EHIC.
In case of emergency you can go directly to hospital, which has a contract with TPF. You have to present your EHIC or PRC and an identification card or passport at the reception desk. There is no charge for those, eligible under the EU regulations. For scheduled hospital treatment, you will have to consult with a general practitioner or a specialist. There are no charges for ambulance transport in case of emergency.
A person who is not insured in the EU, Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland, and Switzerland should insure his/her health privately before he/she comes to Lithuania. These persons will have to pay for all health care services themselves, and then their insurance company will reimburse their expenses.
